Here's the coverdrawing for Athos in America...

... and the sketch.

  1. Sublime. And I like getting to see your preliminary sketches! Fascinated by the process of my favorite cartoonists. I'm really looking forward to this, as I do all your comics.

  3. Thanks! One thing I screwed up in the final drawing and that was present in the sketch, is the feeling that Athos was high up in the air, looking down on the city. Oh, well...

  5. Fantastic! Part of me wishes it would remain in black and white, but I know the final version will be great.

  6. I sort of like the tilted angle and the left vertical plank on the sketch, gives it a weirdly cozy feel. But it's a beauty anyway!

  7. do you do the smaller sketches on the right-hand side so you can see how Athos will look next to the other hardbacks? do you also do this with the softcovers?

  8. Yes, I did the small sketches to see how the Athos cover would look next to previous covers. I also wanted to vary the direction the characters were pointing. So he'd be facing left on one, then right on the next one. No, I don't do sketches like that for the softcovers.
