Its pretty stunning how well this image approximates Bukowski with just a few lines. Nice. I finally started reading Bukowski pretty recently. "Post Office" was incredible and "Factotum" kept the sadness going nicely. I'm going to read "Women" next.
Thanks! Those are all great books. After Women you could try Ham on Rye, about his teenage years, or Love Is A Dog From Hell, if you want to check out his poetry.
I second the poetry recommendation -- Love Is a Dog from Hell is fantastic, as are 'Dangling in the Tournefortia (1982)', 'War All the Time' (1984), and I love 'Septuagenarian Stew' (1990). Generally, I prefer his poetry to his fiction as he seems more honest and less chest-puffing-out, but his novels are great too, in their own way.
And Jason, I agree, this sketch is really spot on.
Thanks for the book recommendations. I'm halfway through 'Women' now and think I will jump into 'Love Is A Dog From Hell' next. I found this video of Marc Maron reading Bukowski's poem 'The Shoelace' and thought it was pretty great:
Thanks! I had already listened to that episode of WTF, but going to youtube I see there is now the whole, almost 4 hours long Bukowski Tapes by Barbet Schroeder.
