Page 1

I had this image in my head for a long time, as an opening of a story. A man looks out a window, a phone rings, he answers it. Will it turn out to be something? Will there be a story? I don't know. Maybe.

  1. Have you read Murakami's 'The Wind Up Bird Chronicle'? It starts with something a bit like this. And is a great book!

  2. I started reading that book once, but never finished it. An inspiration for this new story is actually The Limey, Soderbergh's film. I'd like to try to do a story in a non linear style like that.

  3. It's quite good, though at 600 pages is a commitment. There's also some hubbub over the various translations. I believe the German one is wildly different from the English one, I believe. I love Soderbergh but have never seen The Limey -- will certainly put it on the list.

  7. Thanks! Haven't read anything by Pynchon. I'm aware of Maddin's work, but haven't actually seen any of his films. Where should I start?
