Midge Ure

  1. It was nice being a young person absorbing brand-new music. With Ultravox, I started with Quartet—and the single ‘Reap the Wild Wind’—but never got beyond that. (Though ‘Vienna’ seemed promising.) A lot of keyboard-based new wave seemed too cold once guitars became ascendant. And if an artist was producing albums of a mixed quality, they lost points with me, in terms of perceived integrity. ‘Would I feel cool singing this in public?’ was another litmus test.

I'd like to see you do a Black Flag group portrait.

    1. I like some of the synth pop from the 80's, the whole New Romantics thing. Yes, Reap the Wild Wind was great. They had a couple of good songs, Ultravox. But some of the music from that period has not aged that well.

Black Flag I don't know at all. I had to google their name. I was never really into punk at the time. Some of the New Wave stuff was more appealing. I remember I got a Boomtown Rats lp for christmas once.
