Were there any discussions about adding this to the book? I think it would have been a great help!
I finally got a hold of a copy. Except for Ultravox and the Eurythmics (featured in pin-ups) and David Sylvian (from your blog), a lot of these flew right past me: Gary Numan, Billy Idol, Jimmy Page, Bono… Yes, even Elvis Costello and Bryan Ferry (despite the Avalon cue).
My thought was: You could make this cast of characters cheekier by referencing their names obliquely: Dave, Annie, Midge… or E. Costello, B. Ferry, J. Page… that sort of thing. Or: Mix in all the book's characters, to obfuscate further. As there's no extra pages, the closing endpapers would have been the place to squeeze this in.
I'm enjoying this one, btw. It opens up on rereading. It took me three reads to realize there's a ‘secret origin story’ for Mai and her eyepatch. Every story has a ‘coffee’ scene. Two stories feature ‘light concussions,’ making me wonder: Was a third instance left out for space reasons?
